Ms Ailsa Carr joined WCIB in 2018. She has a degree in English Literature and Culture from the University of Hull and an IPGCE from the University of Sunderland. Before becoming a teacher, she worked with children for nearly ten years in a variety of roles through the theatre, youth groups, educational outreach programmes and the UK government’s National Citizen Service.
WCIB is Ms Carr’s second international school: she qualified as a teacher at Wellington College Tianjin and taught Y2 for two years there. Her teaching experience has been exclusively in the English National Curriculum. She is passionate about facilitating independent pupils who are enthusiastic about learning and resilient. Ailsa’s particular interests are facilitating and adapting the classroom for EAL learners in all subjects whilst maintaining the highest expectations for all.
She is also keen to encourage pupils to take to the stage as much as possible! In addition to writing and producing high quality class assemblies, she has run a singing group, an annual poetry reading competition, fashion shows, and even a circus show with younger pupils!
