Mr. Andrew MacCarthy joined Wellington College Bangkok in 2020, having previously been Head of EAL (English as an Additional Language) at Wellington College Hangzhou. Having enjoyed teaching English as a foreign language, Andrew completed his PGCE with the University of Sunderland in 2010 and began his international teaching career. He later went on to earn a master’s degree in international education. He has taught internationally for several years, both as primary class teacher and EAL specialist, working with students of a variety of ages. Andrew is fascinated in language acquisition and has a passion for discovering novel solutions to language development needs in inclusive learning contexts. He is determined to play an important role in facilitating students’ achievement of the highest levels of English language proficiency across the school. “My focus is on helping to develop a culture at Wellington College Bangkok in which every member of the community – from teachers to students to parents - contributes to the development of language proficiency through awareness of linguistic demands, provision of excellent models of language, and utilisation of effective strategies for language acquisition.”
