Our Vision
In our pursuit of educational excellence, we continue to develop a curricular and co-curricular framework which prepares our pupils to become the leaders, scientists, entrepreneurs, creatives and global citizens for the world of tomorrow. By sharing research and knowledge of educational excellence across all sectors and regions, we stand in the vanguard of pedagogical debate and play an active role in the future development of the educational landscape both in the UK and beyond. We strive to improve universal educational outcomes through direct partnership and collaborative activity in order to serve and help shape a better world for all young people. We ask everyone in the Wellington Community to live by our values - Kindness, Courage, Respect, Integrity and Responsibility - and, by doing so, we ensure we reflect what the world needs to become: diverse, tolerant, kind, sustainable and supportive.
Our Values
Underpinning everything we do at Wellington are the College values. We ask everyone to embrace these values as our standard of interacting with one another and our actions throughout the day.
In 2011, the Wellington College community participated in the process of identifying the values which best encapsulate what we collectively believe Wellington College stands for. After a series of discussions, we arrived at a list of five potential values. A vote was then held across the community to ascertain which we should adopt. The result was overwhelmingly in favour of adopting all five.
These values are now central to our ethos:
KINDNESS
Showing consideration of the needs of others and acting selflessly and generously for their benefit.
COURAGE
The ability to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. To take calculated risks in the pursuit of goodness.
RESPECT
A positive feeling of esteem for a person, group, entity, or quality, resulting in acting with fairness.
INTEGRITY
Consistency or authenticity. Acting in consort with one's values or beliefs. It is the opposite of hypocrisy.
RESPONSIBILITY
Being reliable, dependable, and accountable for one's conduct. Fulfilling a duty. Acknowledging the need to serve the communities in which we operate.
WHAT ARE VALUES?
Put simply, values are our deeply held beliefs about the way the world ought to be and the way we ought to treat each other. From a very young age, we begin forming our values with family, friends, and in institutions such as schools. Each of us has a unique values 'fingerprint' which has a profound impact on our choices, our behaviour, and the formation of our character. Each of us brings our own value set to the Wellington community and, at the same time, as members of this community, we aspire to uphold the five Values adopted by Wellington College to express the heart of the College's character.
Values do not exist in individuals in a vacuum: they are part of a set of common goods that, when upheld, enhance the moral quality of life for all humans. In this way, choosing to live a values-inspired life contributes to the flourishing and well-being of others, as well as enabling us to develop the virtues which form our character. In adopting and championing values, Wellington College is expressing moral wishes not only for our community, but for the impact that our community has on the wider world.
As staff and pupils live, work and learn together in this place, we encourage everyone to look out across our community with open eyes to notice people who exhibit the five Values and not only celebrate what they do, but also emulate their example.
Our Identity
Is there a Wellington College type of person? Yes, there is. Our students are works-in-progress. Our adults – we should be the finished article! The Wellington Identity is a list of five adjectives, each beginning with the letter ‘I’. Together, they describe the type of person a Wellington student is becoming.
INSPIRED
At Wellington College International School Bangkok we guide students to be inspired by everything they do, both inside and outside of the classroom, so they leave school as interesting people, interested in how they can shape the world around them. The Inspired teacher is the one who changed your life. The one who stepped forward every day – in or out of the classroom – to share their own passion for their subject, their own joy in exploration, discussion, creation, invention. And that’s a wonderful model for students. However inspired our teachers may be (and they are), our students can always be more.
INTELLECTUAL
Wellington College International School Bangkok wants our students to adopt a genuinely intellectual approach to their academic work and to their view of the world around them, in the knowledge that a Wellington education is only the beginning of an exciting and life-long journey of learning. As teachers inspire and challenge students, so they become interested and interesting: this is where intellectual development begins. We want our students to keep asking important questions – even difficult questions – and to be fired with a genuine spirit of enquiry.
INDEPENDENT
Wellington College International School Bangkok encourages our students to become truly independent, as those who can think, learn and cope independently will be the leaders and game-changers of the future. A Wellington education is all about the gradual removal of stabilisers, a gentle freeing of the spirit, so that all our students leave the College having learnt how to think, learn and cope independently.
INDIVIDUAL
Wellington College International School Bangkok learning environment helps each and every student to be valued and developed as an individual, so their Wellington experience is much more than just going to school – rather, it is the journey to self. There is only one Wellington College Bangkok – but each student makes it their very own school. All our students have the space and freedom to become truly individual, respecting themselves and respecting the individuality of others.
INCLUSIVE
Wellington College International School Bangkok teaches our students to be inclusive in all dealings with other people, so they leave the College not in a bubble of privilege and elitism, but with the ability to engage with their local, national and international communities, and with a burning desire to do good in the world. At Wellington, students understand that with great privilege comes great responsibility. We want them all to leave the school with a burning sense of responsibility to make the world a better place.
