Dr. Shakira Suwan joined Wellington College Bangkok in the mathematics department in August 2023. She grew up with and eventually taught both American and British curriculums. She graduated from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand with a Ph.D. in Statistics and a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours, double majoring in both Statistics and Mathematics. She also holds an International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE) from University of East London. Before embarking on her teaching career, Dr. Suwan worked as a data scientist in the R&D team at Telstra, Australia’s largest telecommunication company, and later ventured into EdTech, winning the 2022 Education 2.0 Outstanding Leadership award. "I am honoured to be part of Wellington College Bangkok, where I can share my passion for mathematics and statistics. I bring a background in both academia and industry, including experience as a data scientist and in a tech startup, helping me bring real-life mathematics into the classroom. My goal is to make maths engaging and relevant to their worlds, and leave them with strong analytical skills and a love for problem-solving. By connecting mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios, I aim to inspire students to appreciate the power of mathematics and become confident, independent thinkers."
