Ms Marie Monro trained as a teacher at Brunel University in 2005 after finishing a Psychology Degree at Kent University. After teaching in London for 2 years she moved to Shanghai to work in the British International School where she took on the role of Assistant Head leading Key Stage 1. Marie left Shanghai after 6 years to return to Europe where she taught at St. Julian’s School in Portugal for 4 years, teaching in Nursery and with the Student Support Department. She then joined the British School in Guangzhou, China, to lead the Reception year group.  

As a teacher Ms Monro believes that it is especially important to provide opportunities for children to be curious, ask questions, try out new ideas and develop skills such as enquiry, communication and teamwork. ‘The world we now live in is changing at an incredibly fast pace and we do not know what the future will look like. We therefore need to ensure that, as educators, our students are confident, flexible and able to adapt to change – with these skills they will be better equipped to be happy and successful in their life during and after school.’ Marie is excited to be working in the Year 1 team and to continue to foster curiosity, independence and teamwork in her students as they prepare to move from Year 1 to Year 2.
