Instrumental Lessons Begin at Wellington

The Music Department is once again alive with the sound of instrumental lessons as students begin something new, grow in confidence, or continue developing skills built over previous years.

Behind every first note and proud performance is Wellington’s remarkable team of instrumental teachers. Ms Mod and Mr Pep have been part of the College since it opened, helping to shape the department and establish the important place music holds within school life. Mr Guide, Ms Dad, and Mr Boong soon joined them, completing our founding team of piano, drums, voice, violin, and guitar teachers.

Since those early days, the instrumental programme has grown considerably. Wellington now has 33 specialist teachers, enabling students to explore a broad selection of instruments ranging from familiar favourites to double bass, bassoon, and trombone.

Our teachers have studied at leading universities and conservatoires across Europe, Asia, and North America, with several completing doctoral degrees. Many are also active professional musicians who perform with orchestras and ensembles across Bangkok, bringing considerable knowledge and first-hand performance experience to their teaching.

“Learning an instrument is a very personal journey, and every student begins from a different place,” said Ms Sinead Corrigan, Director of Performing Arts. “Our teachers understand how to encourage each individual, whether they are playing their very first notes or preparing for an examination or performance. It’s wonderful to hear the department so full of music again.”

Learning an instrument offers children far more than the ability to play. It requires patience, concentration, and resilience, while giving students another way to express themselves. It can also open the door to ensembles, performances, and the shared enjoyment that comes from making music with others.

We are delighted to see instrumental lessons fully under way and grateful to the teachers whose expertise and encouragement make each student’s musical journey their own.
