  • More than Physical – Our curriculum fosters teamwork, leadership, resilience, and critical thinking, helping students develop transferable life skills.

By prioritising physical literacy, we equip our students with the skills, confidence, and motivation to lead active and healthy lives—whether that involves sport, fitness, or recreational movement.

SPORT FOCUS

Football

The Football programme at Wellington College Bangkok is meticulously designed to provide top-tier coaching, foster lifelong skills, and ensure every student has the opportunity to grow through sport. Our programme is led by an internationally qualified Head of Football, who brings a unique blend of academic credentials and coaching expertise. With a background in Sports Science and Management, and as a UEFA-licensed coach, our Head of Football has held leadership roles at international schools, elite football academies, and a national sports university. Currently serving as a Technical Director for a prominent youth football club, their experience spans both school and professional youth football environments, ensuring our programme remains current, dynamic, and development-focused.

Supported by a skilled coaching team, many of whom have experience as professional players and educators, the football department provides a robust foundation for both aspiring athletes and those playing for enjoyment. This depth of experience guarantees that every student receives high-quality coaching and personalised support.

Programme Structure
The Football programme at Wellington College Bangkok offers a dynamic and challenging environment where students of all ages engage in competitive play and structured development throughout the academic year. Integrated into both the curriculum and our co-curricular programme, Wellington Extra, the football pathway supports players from Year 1 through Year 12 with tailored training and meaningful match play.

All football squads at Wellington are competitive, and students are grouped based on ability, performance, and readiness for match play. Every player trains with a view to participating in fixtures, with flexibility for movement between squads as development occurs. The programme is designed to provide challenge, foster teamwork, and support personal growth through high-level competition.

Our teams represent the College in a range of well-established leagues and tournaments, including the Siam Schools League (SSL), Greater Bangkok Athletic Conference (GBAC), and FOBISIA events. These platforms offer regular, structured competition across all age groups. Alongside our strong links with local football academies, Wellington frequently hosts matches and events on campus, making full use of our high-quality football facilities and contributing to a vibrant football culture within the school.

Our Approach
Wellington’s Football philosophy focuses on three key areas: Technical Excellence, Team Unity, and Character Development. These principles guide every training session
and competitive fixture, with coaches aiming to cultivate not just skilful players but confident, responsible individuals.
Our methodology promotes creative decision-making, tactical understanding, and personal growth. By blending structured training with opportunities for leadership and teamwork, the programme prepares students for success both on the pitch and in their personal development.

Basketball

The Basketball programme at Wellington College Bangkok is designed to provide a year-round experience that combines high-level coaching with meaningful opportunities for growth and competition. Led by a Head Coach with extensive international playing and coaching experience, including roles at national team level and within the North American collegiate system, the programme is further supported by a coaching team comprised of professionals with backgrounds in elite and national-level basketball.

With a strong focus on player development, the programme offers students the chance to train in a professional and supportive environment. Whether aiming to compete at a high level or simply looking to enjoy the game, all students benefit from structured guidance, technical training, and a clear pathway to improve their individual and team performance.

Programme Structure
Basketball is offered as part of the curriculum Games Afternoon and Enrichment sessions during Michaelmas Term and continues throughout the year through the school’s Wellington Extra co-curricular programme. From Year 1 to Year 12, students are provided with a clear developmental pathway, ensuring they can grow their skills and participate in competitive play suited to their level.

Players participate in competitive teams across various age groups, with training sessions designed to meet the needs of all players, regardless of experience or skill level. This structure supports continual development while providing tailored coaching that ensures all players are prepared for competition. Students have the opportunity to progress as their abilities grow, reflecting our commitment to both inclusive sport and the development of competitive teams.

Teams regularly compete in major school sports events such as the Greater Bangkok Athletic Conference (GBAC) and have additional opportunities at FOBISIA competitions. The programme also makes full use of our outstanding indoor facilities, hosting regular fixtures and tournaments, ensuring that students have plenty of chances to compete at a high level.

Philosophy
The Basketball programme is built around three core goals: developing skills, building cohesive teams, and fostering personal growth through sport. Training is shaped by a values-driven framework that encourages discipline, collaboration, and confidence, helping students reach their potential as athletes and as individuals.

Golf

Wellington College Bangkok is rapidly establishing itself as a leading Golf school in Thailand, offering opportunities for students of all abilities—from those new to the sport to elite players aspiring to compete at the highest levels, including securing scholarships at top US universities.

Our structured Golf programme provides clear development pathways, beginning with after-school clubs such as SNAG (Starting New at Golf) for beginners and progressing through the Golf Passport levels and development squads. Students demonstrating strong potential move into our Junior and Senior School Teams, where they receive individual coaching during academic hours as part of a balanced peripatetic system.

Led by PGA-trained professional Michael Antona, our programme takes a holistic approach, developing students' technical skills, physical fitness, mental resilience, and strategic play. Our golfers benefit from access to cutting-edge technology in our Swing Studio, as well as Broken Tree, our dedicated short-game facility introduced in 2024. Regular on-course training is held at Unico Grande Golf Course, conveniently located just across the road.

Wellington has quickly made its mark on the competitive Golf scene. Having entered the FOBISIA Golf Championships twice, we have won both tournaments (2023 and 2025), reinforcing our reputation as a rising force in school Golf. Our top players also compete in the ISGT and ISGT Development Tour across Thailand, as well as in national and international tournaments, including the World Junior Golf Championships in San Diego, USA. With strong links to major tournament organisers, we provide a structured university recruitment pathway for students aiming to pursue Golf at the collegiate level.

Whether students are picking up a club for the first time or training for elite competition, Wellington College Bangkok provides an exceptional environment for golfing excellence.

At Wellington College Bangkok, we believe in the power of both PE and sport, ensuring that every student can engage, improve, and excel at a level that is right for them. Whether it’s through lifelong participation, elite performance, or simply the joy of movement, we are committed to fostering a love of physical activity that lasts a lifetime.
